Of course, these 15 games are just the first to be enhanced by Sony’s latest PS5 update, as many more titles will likely gain VRR support following the initial update patch’s release later this week.Developer Insomniac Games highlighted this on Twitter today, promising "an optional 4K / 60FPS performance mode" for the upcoming exclusive. The games listed in the first wave of titles to feature VRR support are already some of the most visually immersive titles in the PlayStation 5’s young library, and the added graphical fidelity and smoother performances provided by this new PS5 update will make them look and play even better. Not all potential PS5 updates have been quite as positive or well-received, as a recent patch inadvertently caused log-in issues for players trying to access online titles like Elden Ring back in March, and rumors suggest that Sony might be looking to insert ads into free-to-play titles. In November, Sony quietly added HDR support for the PS5’s YouTube app, and the PlayStation 5’s DualSense Controller can now be updated without being connected to its home console - thus making its additional use as a PC controller all the easier. This is just the latest in the many updates and patches Sony has released for the PS5 and its related hardware. Additionally, users will be able to apply VRR to titles that aren’t on the aforementioned list - though this may lead to unexpected visual effects depending on the game in question, the TV or monitor being used, and the visual mode for titles that support multiple graphics settings. Once the upcoming PS5 update patch is launched and installed, VRR support will be activated automatically for the aforementioned games as long as the console used to play them is connected to an HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TV or PC monitor. The first line-up of games to include VRR consists of Astro’s Playroom, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Destiny 2, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, DIRT 5, Godfall, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Resident Evil Village, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, and Tribes of Midgard. Related: PlayStation Plans To Bring Ads Into Free-To-Play Games, Rumors ClaimĪ new blog post from PlayStation recently announced that VRR support will be added to 15 PS5 titles later this week, with several more being added to this list in future updates. Now, it seems like Sony is bringing VRR to the PlayStation 5 in the next few days, with plans to expand this support further down the road. VRR alleviates this by helping the display and console sync better, resulting in smoother gameplay, crisper graphics, and even reduced input lag for titles like Call Of Duty: Vanguard on PlayStation. This is mainly done to reduce or even eliminate visual glitches like screen tearing, which look unsightly and can take a player out of the gaming experience by causing the top and bottom halves of the screen to display two different frames at the same time - spelling disaster during a particularly intense gaming session. Variable Refresh Rate dynamically syncs the refresh rate of a given display with the graphical output of the console it's connected to. However, there is always room for improvement when it comes to the ever-evolving world of gaming technology. The PS5 is already considered an incredibly powerful and immersive system thanks to the PlayStation 5's Solid-State Drive and Haptic Feedback. A new PlayStation 5 update will increase the graphical prowess of several hit PS5 titles this week, thanks to the addition of Variable Refresh Rate (or VRR) support.
